Ch.3
Dear Diary,
Jack keeps trying to track down a pig and
kill it for meat. Meanwhile back on the beach, Ralph and Simon build shelters
for the younger boys. Ralph seems to be getting frustrated because the shelters
keep falling down before they are completed. I can't help but to overhear an
argument between Jack and Ralph while they are on the beach. Ralph explains to
Jack that he is frustrated because all of the other boys do a little bit of
work, and then they go and play.
Ralph explains that there is no use in
calling another meeting to tell the boys that the need to put work before play.
He says that the reason for this is because the boys act like they are on
board, but yet they don’t listen. They will do a few minutes of work, then they
will just go play again. Ralph also points out that Jack's hunters have failed
to catch a single pig. Jack relies to this by saying that the hunters will soon
have more success in killing a pig.
Ralph also tells Jack that he is worried
about all of the younger children having nightmares and being unable to sleep.
However, it looks to me like Jack isn't really listening to Ralph. Jack and
Ralph continue to argue about building shelters and hunting pigs. The boys are
beginning to grow more hostile toward each other. This hostility could grow and
become a hatred between the boys. This situation could affect all of us if some
of the other boys choose to side with either Ralph or Jack.
