Symbols
The first
object I chose is Piggy's glasses. The glasses are the object Piggy uses to
see. The glasses are also the object Jack used to light the signal fire. Piggy's
glasses symbolize vision. Vision in this case is used for sight, and to think.
Although the glasses are 1/2 broken, they are still an important feature in the
book.
The second object I
chose is the fire. The fire is created using wood and the lenses of Piggy's
glasses. All of the boys use the fire. They use it for warmth, and to cook meat
when the hunters catch a pig. The fire symbolizes hope. The fire provides the boys
with hope that they will get rescued. It is used to signal a ship, or
plane so that the boys can get rescued. When the fire goes out, there is no
hope of being rescued.
The final object I
chose is the conch shell. The shell is used by all of the boys. The boys use
the shell when they want to speak during a meeting. The conch shell symbolizes
civilization. When the boys are holding the conch , they are allowed to speak
without being interrupted. Without the shell, there would be no civilization on
the island, because nobody would listen to each other.
